Writing log

Last week I forgot to say I had decided to post about my writing on a weekly rather than ~daily. Hopefully that will be less annoying all round. I adjusted the time I set myself for writing. Previously it was as early as possible in the day, so I would get straight into writing when I woke or came home. That was not working. Now it is set for the early evening when everything is quieter and I can actually get it done.

Sunday
Finally back to actually writing. 420 words were a tremendous relief.

Monday
Officially 'out' to staff at school, favourable response. Eventually realised this and was stunned. Up very late, eventually made myself write before sleeping and managed 360 words.

Tuesday
Got offered casual work, overwhelmed by the two days together. Seems likely the third part of Epic Fantasy will be shorter and less eventful than the second. There are relatively few plot points left to hit; the remainder of the story is mostly a matter of getting the characters to the climax. Interrupted by rescue of of sister from airport. Final result: 543 words, plus a couple of crew suggestions and refinement of an episode idea for remadevoy.

Wednesday
Bit of a slump. Overslept, missed class, up far too late again. Only 242 words to show for it too. Resolved to take a break from being online in the form of IM. Concerned the story has turned out primarily humourous but is not actually being very funny in the third part.

Thursday
Drove over to fill out the papers necessary for accepting the job offered, discovered due to matters of timing and processing it is very unlikely I will be able to take the single day offered to me so far. Fortunately turnaround time means this would have been the case even if I had gone immediately on Tuesday, so I do not feel as if I have messed anything up.

Started (delayed) work on attempting to convert and old desktop into a media server, revised estimate of required time upward by an unknown amount. Is going to take some time to locate and absorb information for deciding such details as the size and number of partitions to divide the hard drive into, and which tools to use for this purpose.

Met the day's goal for writing needed to reach this month's target (215), then noticed there are not too many more needed to make the 15th 16th the halfway point in reaching the monthly total. New goal for the day: 334. And yay, 369 words. Half-way, half-way, a lessening of pressure.

Friday
Although, if I want pressure, there is still that desire to be at a point, to attain a rate of productivity such that I could plausibly manage nanowrimo this year. The momentum of writing seems to be slowing again, but that seems understandable since I have never yet been able to maintain pushes of 300+ words daily. 200 - 300 seems sustainable though, and my long-term goal is really to get writing to be a daily habit with a bit of a hope my output may increase with practice too.

290 words today. I think part three of Epic Fantasy is going to be significantly shorter than part two, maybe shorter than part one too. Unless I make up something to happen in the meanwhile, tomorrow's writing or that of the day after will likely see the characters at the climax. I do not intend to make things up just to pad the story.
If I am so close to the end already, then I had better do some more preparation for the project for next month.

Saturday
Finally made up for all the days missed this month. Now I need only do my planned 200 words daily to meet my target. Not that I am intending to coast, but now that urgency has been reduced everything I produce beyond that target can be extra achievement.

Probably my attitude overall can do with adjusting. Rather than looking at this word target as the minimum acceptable production for the day, I might be better off considering it an achievement to be proud of myself for meeting.

I did do some more preparation for the other project after writing up my day and came up with a number of very basic characters and names to use. Probably talked too much with other people about it too, when I had been wanting to be surprising. This is something I do often - I find it difficult to keep quiet about something when I am excited. After writing tonight, last night's ideas should probably be refined into tables.

Took longer than I expected, but 319 words and that was a pleasant surprise and so were my distractions. At 4029 words I am surprised to realise there is nothing now standing between the characters and the final sequence/s. Even though I knew there was little else to do this still feels surprising.

As of yesterday, my word total for the year is 10,000 exactly. O.O
