IIDB and Gazelle

Gazelle, or more officially known as "The Internet Idea Database", was a PHP content manager geared to the storage and publication of Idea-centric content.

The structure was the most important part of the system. At the top-most level was the Member. Members formed the basis of user accounts in the system. After that came Channels. Channels allow you to organize your ideas into distinctive groups. Security and distribution features were planned for Channels, but I never got around to it. After that came the Idea. Ideas were little more than a name because Versions contained all the idea data. Each version was chonologically organized by date and contained a description of the idea and a Keyphrase of up to four Keywords. Keywords were to form the basis of Interest Lists, but again, I never got around to it. Any member could contribute Thoughts to a Version. Thoughts were used to help the maintainer of the idea to refine the next version. Thoughts could also be voted upon for popularity.

The project began roughly October of 2003, and continued to about February of 2005. After that, there was nearly a year of hacking around, trying to add features and improve what's already there. Unfortunately, this didn't work out as well as I hoped. While I did manage to streamline and fix some of the major bugs of the system, most of the changes were cosmetic. When I began working for a software company in September of that year, what zeal I had for programming in my free time evaporated.

By 2006, I had turned my attention away from working on code to working on less technical projects. Gazelle eventually died with a whimper when I decided to convert my website over to the Drupal CMS.

There are no plans to develop Gazelle futher at this time.
